In 2024, I completed the Python for Data Science and Machine Learning course, an intensive three-month program that provided hands-on experience with machine learning techniques. The course covered a wide range of models, including linear regression and many other key algorithms. As part of the program, I also engaged in data collection projects in Nairobi, gaining practical insights into real-world data handling. In 2024, I enrolled in the Python for Data Science and Machine Learning certification program, conducted in the Westlands area of Nairobi, often referred to as Kenya’s "Silicon Valley." The three-month intensive course offered a deep dive into the world of machine learning, with a strong focus on practical application. Throughout the program, we engaged in every stage of the machine learning process — from data collection and cleaning to model development and evaluation — using real-world datasets.
The program emphasized both individual and group work, allowing us to collaborate on projects while also building independent problem-solving skills. We worked extensively with healthcare and insurance datasets specific to the Kenyan market, as well as data from the local telecommunications sector. These projects provided a rich opportunity to apply various machine learning models, including linear regression, classification algorithms, and clustering techniques, to meaningful and impactful datasets.
By the time I completed the course, I had not only gained a strong technical foundation but also developed a genuine appreciation for the power of analytics in solving real-world problems. Walking out of that program, I felt informed, skilled, and inspired to continue my journey in data science, equipped with practical experience and a clearer understanding of how analytics shapes industries across Kenya and beyond.
